Maca and Low Testosterone – Does Maca Increase Low T?

I am constantly looking for better and better testosterone boosting supplements and/or natural herbs. I heard about Maca being a super food that was good for hormone production in males. I did a ton of research and all the studies determined that there was no clinical proof that Maca increased serum testosterone, but possibly could increase free testosterone. This was disappointing until I read all the other benefits the Maca provides.

So, please read on or you will miss out on a tremendous natural herb that helps with so many things, I am calling it another super food.

What is Maca and Where Does it Come From?

Maca is a plant that comes from the Peruvian Andes and grows at altitudes of at least 11,000 feet. Because it grows soRed, Yellow and Black Maca high in the mountains, it is the highest growing food crop in the world. The Maca plant grows in rocky soils where most other plants can’t grow. Maca does really well in extreme climatic conditions like freezing cold, very bright sunlight and even the strong winds found in the Andes. The Maca plant consists of leaves and a small root, very much like the size of a radish. It is the root that has been treasured for thousands of years due to its ability to increase energy, stamina and fertility for all people who eat it.   1. Wow sounds like some pretty powerful stuff! Do most of the benefits these studies suggest come from ingestion of maca powder or the whole maca root itself? Also what sort of ‘dosage’ would you recommend having on a daily basis to get these benefits? I used to have it in my smoothies but stopped, am thinking of starting back up again!

    • The benefits come with all of the products. You can decide which product is best for your needs.

      Here is the dosage recommendations from The Maca Team:

      These dosage levels are based on a 40 year old with generally good health and weighing 160 lbs. If you weigh more or less adjust the dosage accordingly.  Note:  1 measuring teaspoon of Maca powder weighs 3 grams.

      Raw Maca – all colors including Red Maca, Black Maca and Yellow Maca

      Daily Recommendations – 3-9 grams (1-3 teaspoons) or 2-8 capsules

      Raw Premium Maca

      Daily Recommendations – 3-6 grams (1-2 teaspoons) or 2-8 capsules

      Gelatinized Maca – all colors including Red, Black and Yellow Maca (note: even though Gelatinized Maca is more concentrated, we recommend the same amount to make up for the fact that some nutrients have been destroyed by heating it).

  2. Wow! Maca sounds wonderful. I have digestive issues so I was looking at the maca extracts. I saw that there are several to choose from, yellow, red, black and premium. Which one would you recommend for the most energy? Thank you.

  3. Have you had a chance to actually taste it? I would like to know more about the spiciness you mention. Also, what is the best-recommended way to actually obtain and use Maca?

    I noticed in one of the other comments you talk about the dosage, but is there an inexpensive way to get the roots themselves or is it better to go with a powdered supplement to mix with drinks or salads?

    • Yes, I use it and it is only slightly spicey. I personally just take it by a spoonful each day and let it dissolve and swallow with a little fresh water. It can be taken many ways and I only recommend getting it from a very reputable group, like The Maca Team. No one know as much about this product than these guys.
      The powder can be used on salads but there are also capsules you can take if you like.
      As I said, there are different colors of Maca that give different results depending on what you need it for.
      I recommend the gelatinized version as well for easier digestion.

    Years ago, the beneficial ingredients of the Maca root was brought to my attention. I was mainly interested in it’s beneficial properties in hormone balancing, endocrine and thyroid enhancement and even strengthening the immune system .

    Maca root is excellent for helping to cope with stress and it actually does help improve energy, stamina, and mental and emotional clarity.

    And yes it’s true that Maca was so valued that it was often used as a currency. Also, with today’s athletes seeing any advantage possible, Maca root has become a popular supplement to aid in recovery and improve energy.
