In this article I am going to tell you about all of those benefits and how it will increase your low testosterone levels. So, what is a pomegranate?

What Exactly is a Pomegranate?

Pomegranate is an excellent and delicious red or burgundy colored fruit which has been known for its healing properties for hundreds of years.

They have a very distinctive sweet flavor. The pomegranate is a fruit that is loaded with nutrients that is fun to eat and has an interesting history.

Its medieval French name originated from the roots of Latin for “apple” and “seedy,” according to the University of California.   • There are benefits from the fiber of this fruit. – A 1/2-cup of pomegranate seeds contains four grams of fiber. That is fourteen percent of the fiber women are supposed to include in their daily diet. It is also nine percent of the forty grams men need each day. Including fiber as part of your regular diet is a very effective way to reduce your risk of becoming constipated. Fiber promotes efficient digestion, which helps keep your bowels healthy and working properly. A diet containing plenty of fiber might also help lower your chances of developing heart disease and diabetes. Wish I would have known about this sooner and maybe I wouldn’t have developed Type 2 Diabetes.
  • Pomegranate seeds contain some healthful minerals. – Eating just a half a cup of pomegranate seeds provides you with 205 milligrams of potassium. That is four percent of the amount you need each day to keep your heart and muscles working properly. You also get small amounts of iron from pomegranate seeds. We already know that iron helps protect your immune system and makes sure that you have plenty of oxygen circulating through your body. Pomegranate seeds also provide you with small amounts of calcium, magnesium and zinc. All of these are good for increasing low testosterone levels.
  • There are some essential vitamins in pomegranate seeds. – That same half a cup serving of pomegranate seeds supplies 14 micrograms of vitamin K, and vitamin K is a nutrient that is essential for proper blood clotting and helps support the health of your bones. That half a cup is the contains sixteen percent of the vitamin K that women need on a daily basis and twelve percent of the amount that men need each day. That same serving of seeds also contains three percent of the vitamin E that all adults need each and every day.   • Cardiovascular Benefits – The pomegranate is a potent source of natural antioxidant compounds that help your body rid itself of free radicals, which form during digestion or after you are exposed to toxins. After some time, these free radicals can damage your cellular membranes and DNA. When this happens, it can raise your risk of chronic disorders, including atherosclerosis and heart disease. Multiple clinical studies have shown that pomegranate antioxidants can help improve cardiovascular health, according to experts at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. For example, a study published in the September 2005 issue of the “American Journal of Cardiology” found that subjects with coronary artery disease who consumed pomegranate juice daily for three months had less ischemia, which is a type of heart damage, than similar subjects who took a placebo.
  • Reduced Risk of Cancer – Natural compounds in pomegranate extracts might also have anti-cancer properties, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center, where there was evidence of the slowing of the growth of cultured breast, prostate and lung cancer cells. In a phase 2 clinical trial of pomegranate juice as an anti-cancer supplement, published in July 2006 in “Clinical Cancer Research,” researchers tested the effect of drinking pomegranate juice in male subjects. These subjects had been treated for prostate cancer but had increasing levels of prostate-specific antigen, which is an indication of the cancer’s growth. They found that the rate of prostate-specific antigen increase was drastically reduced and other indicators related to cancer growth were also decreased during the period when the subjects drank the juice. This is pretty awesome if you ask me. Why has the medical community not introduced us to this information, instead of just prescribing more medicine? Just a thought!
  • Properties to Reduce Inflammation – Natural pomegranate compounds, primarily the ones called flavonols, might reduce inflammation, which is at culprit for several disorders, including osteoarthritis and other inflammatory conditions. A lab study published in the February 2006 issue of “Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry” found that compounds in pomegranate juice can block several steps in the cellular responses that lead to inflammation. Another study in the September 2005 issue of “Journal of Nutrition” found that pomegranate extract might help prevent or improve osteoarthritis by inhibiting enzymes involved in inflammation and eventual degradation of cartilage.

How do Pomegranates Help With Low Testosterone?

Pomegranates have also been shown to help men maintain their physical strength and muscle mass.

Researchers from the Queen Margaret University in Edinburgh, U.K. gave pomegranate juice to 22 men to study its effect on their salivary testosterone levels. After two weeks, the participants’ testosterone levels increased by an average of 24 percent. If drinking pomegranate juice daily can increase testosterone levels, doing so may benefit middle-aged men who, according to the Endocrine Society, lose muscle mass as their testosterone levels begin to decline.

Supplements containing pomegranate extract are available from health food stores as pills, capsules or loose powder. No minimum effective dosage has been established for pomegranate supplements. However, taking 40 grams of supplement per day is considered safe and has been used in some research studies.

  1. I absolutely love pomegranate! I take mine mostly in juice form but I also use the frozen berries in smoothies to get the seeds. You can just taste the antioxidants in pomegranate. I actually started consuming it as I read some studies confirming it can raise testosterone levels. Thanks for the great post Curtis!

  2. I am bookmarking your site! I sure hope that some of these can help my son, and he can get off of his testosterone gel that is super expensive. His levels are super low though, but anything is worth a try. Natural products I think would help in that he would maybe not get the acne he gets with the gel? Do you know anything about this?

    • I stay as far away from the gels as possible. Too many side effects and potential for additional medical issues. The natural products are just that, all natural so little to no side effects. There are tons on the market and that is why I provide reviews on them so people can be informed, so they can choose what is best for their situation.

  3. I really want to improve my muscle mass and my trainer also suggested that I would eat this fruit a few days ago.
    I can also have more cardiovascular endurance. However I do intermittent fasting and when I should eat this fruit for optimal results? Or should I just consume it anytime?

    • Even with fasting, you should eat it anyway to give you some energy and help you not feel hungry.

    I found this post very interesting, informative, neat and well laid out.
    I had a couple of question come up as I was reading it but then you covered them.
    If I was not on anti coagulants, I would seriously consider buying some pomegranates on my next shop or getting some supplements.
    I’m no authority but it all looked great to me.
