Calcium Zinc Magnesium Health Benefits

In the testosterone-boosting industry, we hear a lot about the benefits of ZMA. What if we added Calcium to that combination, what would be the benefits? It turns out that Calcium Zinc Magnesium Health Benefits are tremendous for both men and women. And yes, it does boost testosterone levels in men and is backed by scientific studies.

Let’s have a close look at the benefits of these supplements.

What is Zinc and Why Do We Need it?

Zinc is a trace element, metal, and vital nutrient for both men and women to stay healthy. It is said to help our immune system to fight off viruses and various bacteria. We also know that Zinc is needed by our bodies to make DNA and proteins. When a woman is pregnant, Zinc is critical to the proper growth and development of the fetus and continues to be important during early childhood.

Zinc has many benefits and a Zinc deficiency can cause multiple issues, including low testosterone.

Zinc benefits include:

  • Considered a Powerful Antioxidant – Zinc is an effective antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. An adequate amount of Zinc in your body helps to decrease your chance of development of some diseases and also help fight them. This includes the potential for using it as a natural cancer treatment, especially in older patients.
  • Benefits Hormonal Health – Zinc is an important part of our hormone production. This includes increasing testosterone levels in both men and women. Zinc is important for female sex hormones to make sure the creation and release of eggs are correct in and from the ovaries. Zinc is needed by men and women, but in levels too high, it can be dangerous. The RDA for adults is 11mg and we should never exceed 40mgs per day to prevent bad side effects. More on that later.
  • Helps Prevent and Fight Diabetes – As a Type 2 Diabetic, I should have been aware of the fact that Zinc is involved in balancing hormones, including insulin to help regulate our blood sugar. It does this by binding to insulin so that it is properly stored in the pancreas, so it can be released at the right time when our glucose goes into our blood.
  • Helps With Our Immunity and Can Even Fight Colds – Did you know you can take Zinc supplements for five months or more to reduce your risk of getting a common cold? It is true, and if you do catch a cold, it speeds up the recovery process and shortens the overall time you have a cold.

Research shows that zinc can prevent the mucus and some bacteria buildup that happens in the nasal passages when you get a cold.

Research conducted by the Medical Education Center of Chandigarh India found that if you take Zinc within 24 hours of cold-related symptoms, the length of the cold symptoms was reduced drastically compared to a group that didn’t supplement with zinc.

  • Increases Fertility in Men and Women – Zinc is critical for our fertility and more controlling testosterone levels in men. Studies show that Zinc deficiency in otherwise healthy men is directly associated with considerably less testosterone levels than normal. This obviously has an impact on men’s fertility and sex drive.

In one study by the Department of Internal Medicine at Wayne University, men were deprived of Zinc for twenty weeks. This did cause lowered levels of testosterone. When these same men were then given zinc supplementation, it effectively increased serum testosterone in most of the men, especially the ones who had very low levels of testosterone at that point in the study.

  • Helps With Proper Liver Function – Zinc helps keep your liver cleansed to reduce inflammation in the liver. It also reduces free radical damage and helps nutrients get absorbed correctly which in turn helps us eliminate waste.
  • Helps Us With Lean Muscle Growth and Recovery From Workouts – Since Zinc plays a big role in the growth of our cells, it help with both growing and repairing our muscles. Zinc also helps with the proper release of testosterone, growth hormone, and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1). These are all necessary for us to build muscle and for a healthy metabolism.

As you can see, Zinc is very important to our health and for healthy testosterone levels.

Magnesium is also critical for our testosterone level, among other health benefits.

Why Do We Need Magnesium?

Magnesium is one of the most abundant minerals found naturally on Earth. It is found in the sea, in plants, in animals and of course humans. It is important for many functions of our body and our brains. Unfortunately, most of us do not get enough Magnesium in our diets nowadays. Most of the Magnesium found in our bodies is in our bones and the rest in our muscles, tissue, and our blood.

Magnesium supplementation comes with the following potential benefits:

  • Is Part of over 600 biochemical 600 reactions in your body – These include helping to convert food into the energy you need, creating proteins from amino acids along with creation and repair of our DNA and RNA. It is also necessary for proper contraction and relaxation of our muscles. It also regulates the messages for our brain and our nervous system.
  • Can Boost Our Exercise PerformanceAccording to studies, you need 10 – 20% more Magnesium when you are exercising, compared to when you are not moving. Magnesium helps get rid of lactic acid that builds up in our muscles when we are working out and can cause some pain. Studies show that supplementing with Magnesium boosts physical performance in athletes, the older group, and also people who have some chronic diseases.

Studies have shown that supplementing with it can boost exercise performance for athletes, the elderly, and people with chronic disease.
In one study I found, volleyball players who took 250 mg of magnesium per day noticed great improvements in jumping and arm movements.

And of course, there are other studies that have found no benefit with magnesium supplements in athletes with low to normal levels of Magnesium.

  • Can Lower Blood Pressure, In People with High Blood Pressure – Studies show that people with high blood pressure taking magnesium can lower blood pressure. One study showed a considerable decrease in blood pressure in people that had high blood pressure and a total of 450 mg per day of the supplement.
  • Helps Fight Type 2 DiabetesOne important study showed that people with type 2 diabetes that took high doses of magnesium every day observed significant improvements in blood sugar and A1c levels, in comparison to another group who did not take the supplement. Both groups had a Magnesium deficiency to start the study.

Other benefits of supplementing your diet with Magnesium include prevention of migraines, insulin resistance reduction, and it also has anti-inflammatory benefits.

Calcium is another necessary mineral for our health.

Calcium is Critical to Our Health.

Calcium is vital for our overall health and in fact, our life. Pretty much every cell in our body uses calcium in one way or another. Calcium is used in many parts of our bodies, including our nervous system, muscles, heart, and big time in our bones. We all know our bones store Calcium and that keeps our bones strong and dense. Unfortunately, as we age, we absorb less and less calcium from our diet, so our bones don’t get enough. This loss of Calcium in our bones can eventually cause osteopenia or osteoporosis.

What Happens if We Add Vitamin B6 with Zinc and Magnesium?

Before I answer that question, first you need to know all about B6.

Vitamin B6 is one of many B vitamins and it is critical for converting protein into energy. It is also very important for helping your body absorb and process Zinc and Magnesium.

Adding B6 to Zinc and Magnesium in a single formula is called ZMA. According to Wikipedia, ZMA originally consisted of  Zinc Monomethionine Aspartate, Magnesium Aspartate, and Vitamin B6 and is a supplement used primarily by athletes, gymnasts, and bodybuilders.

ZMA has become a popular testosterone booster on its own, even though it doesn’t directly actually appear to boost testosterone. ZMA indirectly helps your body produce more free testosterone by reducing cortisol and by acting as an anti-inflammatory. But, Zinc and Magnesium are pretty routinely added to testosterone supplements on the market nowadays, because of their scientifically proven results for helping with muscle growth, recovery, and quality sleep.
